Christmas Movie #10: Die Hard

Yippee ki yay!

Fuck you, you have to start a review of 'Die Hard' that way.

Not that this is a review of 'Die Hard'.

You know why? Cos it's 'Die Hard'. There. Reviewed.

I could try and analyse the film. Why it's so excellent. Why Bruce Willis embodies the best action heroes with his sarcasm, strength and occasional vulnerability. Why Alan Rickman is one of the best screen villains, snarling his way through some terrific dialogue. Why the supporting characters are so rich and funny, and vital to the plot. Why the setting is used in such a creative and imaginative way. Why the action scenes are always so exciting, even though you've seen the film sooooooo many times. I could do all that. But it's fucking 'Die Hard' so I don't have to.

I will say this though. The end of the year is coming and film critics are compiling best and worst of lists of the year. If 'A Good Day To Die Hard' doesn't top a lot of lists there is no justice. To go from this kind of sublime to that kind of ridiculous is sad and dissapointing. Bruce, just leave it alone now eh?

By the way, Matt, I hope you're reading this now.
